Much is known about the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his art dealer brother Theo through the large amount of correspondence they had and which still exists today. Drawing on their letters to each other and to friends and family, I present a musical rendering of their last few years during a period when classical art was being overtaken by the new modern art that we see today.

Both brothers played a huge part in the understanding and appreciation of this new art and this musical is a tribute to their efforts and the sacrifices they both made.

Like many painters of this period Vincent is influenced by the simplicity of Japanese prints. The effect on his art was significant and it tailored his style and can be seen in his work after this point.

Vincent wants to set up a ‘School of the South’ with his artist friends from Paris where they can take advantage of the bright sunny skies and live as a commune supporting each other.
